INEC begins distributing sensitive election materials across Anambra State ahead of the governorship election
Anambra Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive election materials to all 21 local government areas in Anambra State ahead of Saturday’s crucial governorship election.

According to a 9am News report, the exercise began on Thursday at the INEC state headquarters in Awka and is being carried out under strict security measures.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Queen Agwu, personally supervised the process alongside the Commissioner of Police for election duty, Abayomi Shogunle. The police chief assured voters that adequate security has been deployed to both land and riverine communities to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

INEC earlier confirmed that a total of 2,802,790 registered voters are expected to participate in the election, casting their ballots across 5,718 polling units in the state. However, the commission noted that elections will not be held in two polling units due to the absence of registered voters.

This governorship election will feature 16 candidates, including incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP), and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among others.

As INEC finalises preparations, attention now turns to how smoothly the logistics and security arrangements will hold up in one of Nigeria’s politically vibrant states.
