The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has decorated newly promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force during a colourful ceremony held on Tuesday at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the event reaffirmed the IGP’s commitment to rewarding professionalism, diligence, and outstanding service within the Force.
The promotion exercise saw one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) elevated to Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), four Commissioners of Police (CP) promoted to AIGs, and eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCs) advanced to substantive Commissioners of Police (CP).
Those decorated include DIG Mohammed Dankwara; AIGs Denimen Abibo, Umar Madaki, Nkechi Eze, and Garba Nzukwen; and CPs Naziru Kankarofi, Nendel Gomwalk, Tijani Fatai, Aniefok Akpan, and Moorkwap Dongshal, among others.
The newly promoted officers were part of 923 personnel who successfully passed the transparent promotion exercise conducted by the Police Service Commission. The process involved written examinations and interviews, following the Inspector-General’s recommendations.
Dignitaries Honour the Ceremony
The ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including former Governor of Plateau State and current Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Lalong; Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri; and former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari.
Others in attendance were Senator Tony Nwoye (Anambra North), Senator Iya Abbas (Adamawa Central), and Senator Ede Dafinone (Delta Central). The Minister of State for Regional Development, FCT, Alhaji Ahmadu, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, also graced the event.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Founder of Al-Hikmah University, Chief (Dr.) Abdul-Raheem Oladimeji, OFR, members of the Force Management Team, retired senior officers, and families of the honourees were also present.
IGP Charges Officers on Integrity and Innovation
In his address, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to uphold the highest ethical standards while embracing community-oriented and intelligence-led policing. He emphasized the need for innovation and proactive strategies to address evolving security challenges across the nation.
The police chief further encouraged the officers to lead with integrity, fairness, and dedication to justice, serving as examples to their subordinates and maintaining public trust.
