The 17th Headies Awards, initially scheduled for April 5, 2025, will now be held on April 27, 2025, as the prestigious event returns to Nigeria after two editions in the United States.

The Headies Academy announced the change on March 22, citing unforeseen circumstances and the need to provide stakeholders with a befitting ceremony.

In a statement shared on its official social media pages, the Academy expressed its regret over any inconvenience caused by the rescheduling but reassured fans and industry players of a memorable experience.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regret to announce that the 17th Headies has been rescheduled from April 5th to Sunday, April 27th, 2025.

We understand that many of you may have already made arrangements for the original date, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please know that our commitment to delivering an exceptional experience at The Headies remains unwavering.

We are excited to bring you an unforgettable evening of music, glamour, and excitement on April 27th. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”

The nomination list for the 17th Headies was recently released, with Rema, OdumoduBlvck, Tems, and Ayra Starr leading the pack. However, the list has sparked mixed reactions due to notable omissions and allegations of the Academy flouting its own eligibility guidelines.

Industry Support & Public Trust

In a recent interview, Headies Executive Producer, Ayo Animashaun, lamented the declining support for the awards in Nigeria, stating that the Grammys had become more popular among Nigerians. The upcoming edition presents an opportunity for the Headies Academy to restore credibility and industry confidence in what remains Nigeria’s most prestigious music award.

As anticipation builds, the 17th Headies promises to deliver a night of celebration, recognition, and unforgettable moments in Nigerian music.
