Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has attributed the state’s triumph over political crisis to divine intervention, describing God as the ultimate liberator of the state and its people. Speaking at the Christmas Ballad hosted by former Governor Dr. Peter Odili in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara highlighted the lessons learned during the period of political antagonism and credited the unwavering support of Rivers people for his resilience.
Reflecting on the crisis, Governor Fubara said:
“It is not me being strong. My strength is drawn from every one of you. You gave me encouragement; you make the calls for me. So why won’t I stand up for you? The ultimate liberator and game-changer remains God Almighty, and because we have Him on our side, victory is assured.”
The governor reassured attendees of his administration’s commitment to fostering progress and prosperity, emphasizing that 2025 would be a better year for the state. He acknowledged the support of true leaders and well-meaning individuals who resisted pressures to succumb to tyranny and pledged to uphold the integrity of Rivers State.
The event, held at Dr. Odili’s residence, was marked by praise for Governor Fubara’s leadership. Justice Mary Odili commended the governor for his role as an emancipator, stating that God had positioned him to steer the state toward stability and progress.
Former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, lauded Governor Fubara for blending Dr. Odili’s leadership traits with his style, ensuring Rivers State remains proud under his governance.
In his remarks, Dr. Odili expressed gratitude for the governor’s fortitude in overcoming challenges, which he described as an unnecessary existential fight over the soul of Rivers State. He noted that Governor Fubara had steadied governance and brought happiness to civil servants and residents, reminiscent of the state’s past glory.
The gathering, described as a reunion of Rivers political leaders, also featured words of encouragement from Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, and Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retired), who praised the humility and dedication of the governor and his family.
Governor Fubara concluded by reiterating his administration’s commitment to progress, emphasizing that leadership is a temporary role meant to leave lasting positive impacts for future generations.
