The Federal Government has unveiled a new digital portal under the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD) to enable Nigerians report fraudulent activities in housing estates, submit evidence, and monitor the progress of their complaints.
According to a 9am News report, the portal, accessible via https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, was launched on Tuesday as part of efforts to tackle real estate scams and strengthen accountability in the housing sector.
The Ministry explained that all complaints submitted will be reviewed in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, and professional housing bodies.
A Step Towards Transparency in Real Estate
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the 2012 National Housing Policy. The policy calls for stronger regulation of the housing industry, certification of estate developers, and protection of citizens from fraudulent practices.
Dangiwa added that the housing policy also mandates an efficient administrative, legal, and regulatory framework to ensure proper monitoring of housing delivery and professional compliance in the built environment.
The Ministry also rolled out the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS) to improve project oversight. The platform will allow real-time monitoring of housing projects, evaluate contractors’ performance using key indicators, and serve as a centralized repository for critical project documents, payment certificates, and Bills of Quantities.
Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, Deputy Director and Head of the ICT Department at the Ministry, explained that both platforms demonstrate government’s commitment to protecting citizens and enhancing transparency. He disclosed that the fraud reporting portal was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure effective tracking and prosecution of offenders.
Over the past year, the Ministry has launched several digital initiatives aimed at reforming the real estate sector. In May 2024, it introduced the Renewed Hope Housing Online Portal to manage applications, marketing, and sales of homes under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estate Programme.
That platform enables Nigerians to search for properties, register online, and access mortgage plans with multiple payment options, including instalments and equity contributions.
With the Housing Fraud Reporting Portal now live, the government is sending a clear signal that fraudulent practices in real estate will no longer be tolerated. Offenders risk facing strict legal consequences, while Nigerians can now track their complaints and hold developers accountable.
This move, experts say, could restore confidence in the housing sector, protect investors, and create a more transparent environment for both buyers and developers.
