The Federal Government has approved an increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to ₦77,000, effective from July 2024. This adjustment follows the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
In a statement released on Wednesday, NYSC spokesperson Caroline Embu confirmed the allowance increment, citing a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, signed by Chairman Ekpo Nta on September 25, 2024. The decision comes after NYSC Director General Brigadier General YD Ahmed advocated for better welfare for Corps Members, aiming to boost morale and enhance their service to the nation.
Previously, the monthly allowance stood at ₦33,000, raised from ₦19,800 in 2020 following a new minimum wage bill. President Bola Tinubu recently signed the National Minimum Wage Bill into law, raising the minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.
