FG Declares March 31 and April 1 Public Holidays for Eid-el-Fitr

The Federal Government has declared March 31 and April 1 as public holidays to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, urging Nigerians to embrace unity, peace, and compassion.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, signifying the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement released by Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In the statement, Minister Tunji-Ojo extended heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim faithful across Nigeria for the successful completion of their Ramadan fast. He praised the spiritual devotion exhibited during the holy month and highlighted the core virtues of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace.

The minister urged Muslims to carry these values beyond the Ramadan season, using them as a guide to contribute positively to their communities and the country at large.

Beyond the spiritual observance, the minister emphasized the significance of Eid-el-Fitr as an opportunity to strengthen national unity. He encouraged all Nigerians, regardless of their faith, to pray for peace, stability, and prosperity in the nation.

“This season should remind us of the power of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in building a stronger and more harmonious society,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

He also called on citizens to celebrate responsibly and safely, noting the importance of extending kindness and charity to the less privileged, in line with the teachings of Ramadan and Eid.

On behalf of President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government, Tunji-Ojo wished all Muslim Nigerians a joyful and fulfilling Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

“May the blessings of the season bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to everyone,” the statement concluded.
