The Federal Government, in collaboration with Africa Plus Partners, has initiated the construction of the 125km Benin–Asaba Expressway in Edo State, marking a significant step in improving Nigeria’s road infrastructure.
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, conducted the groundbreaking ceremony at the project site in Benin City. The governor emphasized the importance of the expressway, describing it as a transformative project that will enhance connectivity and boost economic activities between Edo and Delta states.
“This is a legacy project. For private investors to risk their capital, it shows belief in the President’s vision and the future of our economy,” Okpebholo stated, praising the financing structure of the initiative.
The Benin–Asaba Expressway is expected to ease transportation, reduce travel time, and support trade in the region. The partnership between the Federal Government and Africa Plus Partners highlights a growing trend of private sector involvement in critical national infrastructure development.
With construction now underway, stakeholders are optimistic that the project will be completed on schedule, delivering long-term economic benefits to the region and the country at large.
