Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has strongly denied allegations that he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Addressing the rumors circulating on social media, El-Rufai described the claims as “patent lies” and urged the public to disregard the speculation.
In a post on his verified social media handle on Sunday, El-Rufai reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and announced legal action against those spreading the false information.
“Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers,” he stated.
El-Rufai has a notable history with both the PDP and the APC. He served as the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under the PDP administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. However, he was a founding member of the APC and served as Kaduna State governor for two terms under the party’s banner.
Although nominated by President Bola Tinubu for a ministerial position, his appointment was not confirmed by the Senate, sparking widespread speculation about his political future.
The rumors of El-Rufai’s alleged defection to the PDP gained traction following tweets from his X (formerly Twitter) account that some interpreted as being critical of the Tinubu administration. However, El-Rufai has categorically denied any shift in his political allegiance.
El-Rufai’s firm response, including involving his lawyers, underscores the potential damage such rumors could cause to his reputation and political standing. By addressing the issue publicly and taking legal steps, he aims to discredit the claims and hold those responsible accountable.
Nasir El-Rufai remains aligned with the APC, dismissing rumors of his defection as unfounded and malicious. His commitment to addressing the issue legally highlights his determination to maintain his political integrity amidst ongoing speculations.
