EFCC arrests 93 fraudsters

A sting operation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abeokuta has led to the arrests of 93 suspected internet fraudsters at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL). The operation, which took place around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2025, also saw the recovery of 18 vehicles and mobile devices.

In a statement, OOPL described the operation as a “Gestapo-like invasion” that caused panic, injuries, and chaos among guests at a private event. The management claimed EFCC operatives arrived without a warrant and fired shots, forcing attendees to flee in fear. OOPL demanded a public apology from the EFCC, warning of possible legal action.

EFCC Maintains Arrest Was Based on Intelligence

According to EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, the arrests followed credible intelligence linking the suspects to internet fraud activities. He confirmed the suspects would be charged in court after investigations. The EFCC has not responded directly to OOPL’s allegations.
