Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has expressed dissatisfaction with the Edo State governorship election results, stating his intention to challenge the outcome in court. Ighodalo, who finished second with 247,274 votes, accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of collusion to steal his mandate. The APC’s candidate, Monday Okpebholo, was declared the winner with 291,667 votes.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ighodalo highlighted multiple irregularities, including the failure to use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in over 160 polling units and alleged vote-buying by the APC. He plans to seek redress at the election tribunal, asserting that the PDP was the rightful winner.
Ighodalo also rejected any offer of friendship from Okpebholo, insisting that he cannot accept such gestures while the mandate is contested.
