Dr. Agbo Major Emerges as NNPP National Chairman in Party’s Convention

Dr. Agbo Major has been elected as the new National Chairman of the NNPP in a convention aimed at repositioning the party.

Dr. Agbo Major has been elected as the new National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) following a convention attended by delegates and party officials at both national and state levels.

The election, which took place on Tuesday and lasted until the early hours of Wednesday, saw the emergence of other key officials, including Mr. Oginni Olaposi as National Secretary, Chief Felix Chukwurah as Deputy National Chairman (South), and Alhaji Babayo Muhammed as Deputy National Chairman (North). Other elected officers include Adetoyese Omokanye (National Treasurer), Abdulrasaq Abdulsallam (National Publicity Secretary), Hajia Aisha Kade (National Woman Leader), Chief Edward Ofomona (National Youth Leader), and Omolara Johnson (National Organising Secretary).

The convention followed a ruling by the Abia High Court on November 1, 2024, directing the NNPP Board of Trustees (BoT), led by its Founder and Chairman, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, to reconstitute all organs of the party from ward congresses to the national level. The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the newly formed leadership.

Speaking at the event, Aniebonam confirmed that the board had fulfilled the court’s mandate by successfully repositioning the party’s structures, culminating in the national convention. He assured members that INEC and security agencies had been duly notified throughout the process.

In his welcome speech, BoT Secretary Alhaji Mohammed Babayo reaffirmed the NNPP’s commitment to credible leadership and governance, emphasizing that unity remains the party’s top priority.

Dr. Agbo Major, in his first address as National Chairman, extended a hand of reconciliation to aggrieved members, urging them to return and contribute to the party’s growth.

“I thank all delegates for the confidence reposed in me. The newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) is committed to repositioning our party for the 2027 elections. We will not tolerate anything short of excellence,” Major stated.

The newly elected officials are expected to commence work immediately to strengthen the NNPP’s position as a formidable political force in Nigeria.
