David Moyes has made a sensational return to Everton as manager, replacing Sean Dyche, who was sacked earlier this week. The struggling Premier League club confirmed the announcement on Saturday.

“David is widely recognised as one of the Premier League’s most experienced and accomplished managers, having led Everton for more than 500 matches from 2002 to 2013,” a statement on Everton’s official website read.

The club’s executive chairman, Marc Watts, welcomed Moyes back, saying:

“We are pleased that David is joining us at this pivotal time in Everton’s history. With over a decade of experience at the club, he is the right leader to propel us through our final season at Goodison Park and into our new stadium.”

Moyes, 61, expressed his delight at returning, remarking:

“It’s great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club.”

The Scot has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, marking his second spell with the Toffees. His first tenure from 2002 to 2013 included notable achievements such as a fourth-place Premier League finish in 2005 and an FA Cup final appearance in 2009.

Moyes inherits a team teetering just above the relegation zone after a poor run of form under Dyche, who managed only one win in his last 11 games. Everton’s 2-0 victory against Peterborough in the FA Cup on Thursday was overseen by interim managers Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman.

With Everton preparing to move into their new Bramley Moore Dock Stadium next season, Moyes faces the dual challenge of steering the club away from relegation while laying the groundwork for a brighter future.

The former West Ham and Manchester United manager will start his second stint with Everton against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday. Fans are hopeful Moyes can replicate the stability and success he brought during his first tenure at Goodison Park.
