In a strategic bid to strengthen leadership and reposition the Nigerian Army for enhanced operational effectiveness, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has approved the posting and appointment of senior officers into key command, instructional, and staff roles across different formations and units.
According to a statement by Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, the redeployment includes a few Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at the Army Headquarters (AHQ), two General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Corps Commanders, Commandants of training institutions, and Brigade Commanders. These appointments are considered critical to sustaining the Army’s operational and administrative structure.
Lt.-Gen. Oluyede urged the newly appointed officers to redouble their commitment and professionalism in ensuring the continuation of the Nigerian Army’s onslaught against terrorism, insurgency, and other security threats. He further reassured troops of his commitment to their welfare as they carry out their national duties.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has trained the first batch of officers in a five-day Civilian Harm Mitigation (CHM) course on air operations. The initiative is aimed at reducing collateral damage during missions and strengthening the Air Force’s compliance with global operational standards.
In another development, the Arewa Think Tank, a northern advocacy group, commended the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, for his role in the recent arrest of the leader of the Mahmuda terrorist group, which had been terrorising residents of Borgu in Niger State.
Convener of the group, Muhammad Yakubu, said Ribadu’s collaboration with the armed forces and intelligence agencies has yielded one of the most significant counter-terrorism breakthroughs in recent times. He described the development as a major win for national security.
