Burna Boy Claims He’s Richer Than Most He Once Looked Up To

Grammy-winning star Burna Boy declares he's wealthier than his former role models, while music executive Jude Okoye confirms his status
Burna Boy Wealth

Grammy-winning Nigerian megastar Burna Boy has publicly shared that his wealth now surpasses that of many people he once admired. The Afrofusion artiste, known for his chart-topping hits and bold persona, expressed this sentiment in a now-expired Instagram Story, where he encouraged perseverance as a path to success.

In his post, Burna Boy highlighted the transformation of Nigeria’s wealth landscape, which traditionally celebrated politicians, oil magnates, and even fraudsters, before musicians were considered wealthy.

“Imagine growing up and only politicians and oil men were the ones really getting REAL money followed by the G boys. Music was not even in the conversation when money was the topic,” he wrote. “Now, an ugly black musician from Port Harcourt got more money than 90% of the people he looked up to as moneymakers.”

Jude Okoye, a Nigerian music executive and brother to the famed Paul and Peter Okoye of P-Square, backed Burna Boy’s claims during an Instagram Live session with Daddy Freeze. Okoye declared Burna Boy the wealthiest Nigerian artiste, revealing that his earnings over the past four years alone stand at about $80 to $100 million.

“Anybody that is making any ridiculous money is Burna Boy… Don’t listen to what anybody tells you, Burna Boy is the richest, I’m telling you,” Okoye asserted.

Burna Boy’s recent success reflects the evolving opportunities for African artists, with Nigerian music reaching international stages and audiences, and reshaping the country’s entertainment and economic landscape.
