Breaking news from Ogasabi on 9am news Nigeria: Nigerian artist Burna Boy has broken his silence on the August 1, 2024, nationwide Protests, revealing that the fight in him died during the ENDSARS rally in 2020. Amid the highly anticipated #Endbadgovernment protests sweeping the country, the Afrobeats singer took to X (formerly Twitter) to explain his silence on the issue, urging people not to mention his name in relation to the protests.

“The fight in me died on this day. Ogun go doggy, anybody wey call my name this time around,” Burna Boy wrote, referencing a 2020 post where protesters refused to play his songs and chanted, “No Burna, cancelled!” during the ENDSARS protests.

Burna Boy’s post elicited a wide range of responses from X users, many of whom chastised him for his silence. One user wrote, “Oga, shut up. Because they did you bad doesn’t mean you should give up. U taught us to keep fighting in your songs but u dey here dey cap nonsense.”

In response, Burna Boy said, “I taught you to keep fighting your oppressors but you chose to fight me.” When another user accused him of abandoning his role as an African giant, he replied, “I don’t hand over to Falz bros.” This statement drew further criticism, with users pointing out that rapper Falz already held that title. One commented, “What did you hand over?? Oga na Falz dey hold am before you, no hand over anything,” while another added, “Lmfao. You didn’t hand anything over, you were just using Nigeria’s misery to make music and money for yourself.”
