Nigerian socialite Bobrisky falls victim to a $990 online romance scam after months of emotional manipulation by a man posing as a potential lover from the US and Canada.
Bobrisky Romance Scam

Popular Nigerian crossdresser and socialite, Bobrisky, has opened up about falling victim to an online romance scam that cost him $990. The controversial figure took to his Instagram page to narrate how he was deceived over the course of several months by someone he believed was genuinely interested in him.

According to Bobrisky, the scammer initially contacted him through direct messages and slowly built trust by engaging in regular conversations. The scammer claimed to be based in the United States before later saying he had moved to Canada. To further cement the deception, the scammer reportedly made frequent phone calls to Bobrisky, sharing personal stories and appearing emotionally invested.

“He called me almost every day. Said he lived in the US and later moved to Canada. I never thought in my life I would be a client to anybody,” Bobrisky wrote.

The incident took a financial turn when someone contacted Bobrisky from the United States requesting advertisement services and offering to make a payment via CashApp. Since Bobrisky didn’t have access to the CashApp platform, he asked the man he had been chatting with for help.

Trusting the man, Bobrisky allowed the client to send the payment of $990 to the scammer’s CashApp. But as soon as the scammer received the money, he blocked Bobrisky across all platforms, cutting off all communication.

“As soon as he got the money, he blocked me immediately. I was shocked and in disbelief,” Bobrisky said.

The media personality expressed disappointment, admitting he never imagined he could be scammed, especially by someone he believed was emotionally attached to him. He went further to share screenshots of their conversations and a photo of the alleged scammer on his Instagram page, hoping to warn others about the dangers of online fraud.

This incident adds to the growing list of online romance scams in Nigeria and globally, where scammers prey on emotions and manipulate their victims over time to gain financial benefits.

Bobrisky’s experience is a reminder of the importance of caution in online relationships, especially when financial transactions are involved.
