Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, has completed a transfer from National Women’s Soccer League side Bay FC to Saudi Women’s League giants Al Hilal on a two-year contract.

The 30-year-old forward, who only joined Bay FC in February 2024 after a successful spell with FC Barcelona Femeni, underwent her medical on Monday night before sealing the deal. The Athletic reported that Bay FC and Al Hilal reached an agreement on an undisclosed fee before the Nigerian star travelled to Saudi Arabia to finalise her move.

Oshoala featured prominently for Bay FC last season, making 25 league appearances, including 23 starts, scoring seven goals and providing one assist. Across all competitions, she managed 38 games and scored eight times.

However, her influence declined this season. Bay FC head coach Albertin Montoya admitted that her limited minutes were linked to her adaptation to the NWSL’s playing style.

“In this league, you have to [defend], and that’s something that we’re working with her. When she gets that and has the confidence in front of goal to score and helps us defensively, she’ll be even more valuable. That’s why with Caroline Conti, she gives us something else defensively,” Montoya explained.

Her move to the Gulf state is seen as a chance to revive her illustrious career. Al Hilal, one of the biggest women’s clubs in Saudi Arabia, are banking on her vast experience and goalscoring prowess to strengthen their attack.

Oshoala has enjoyed a glittering career across Europe, Asia, and the USA. She is a six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year and played a key role in helping the Super Falcons win a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco in 2022.

The Nigerian star will now add Saudi Arabia to her football journey, which has already seen her represent clubs in England, China, Spain, and the United States.
