On January 15, 2025, Nigeria observed Armed Forces Remembrance Day, a solemn annual tradition honoring the bravery and sacrifices of the country’s fallen military heroes. Across the nation, leaders, dignitaries, and citizens gathered to pay tribute to the gallant men and women who served in the military, defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and contributing to global peacekeeping efforts.

At the National Arcade in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Tinubu, who was attending the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the UAE. Shettima led senior government officials in laying wreaths at the cenotaph and releasing white pigeons to symbolize peace.

Top officials in attendance included the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, service chiefs, and Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. Other dignitaries, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and several state governors, also graced the occasion.

Former leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Dr. Abubakar Saraki, and Peter Obi, joined Nigerians in honoring the military’s sacrifices. They took to social media platforms to express gratitude to the fallen heroes and their families.

Atiku emphasized that the sacrifices made by the armed forces should never be forgotten, while Saraki highlighted the courage and resilience of military families. Obi extended heartfelt encouragement to active-duty personnel combating insecurity nationwide.

State-Level Celebrations
