The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a decisive victory in Nasarawa State’s local government elections, winning all 13 chairmanship positions and 140 out of the 147 councillorship seats. Barrister Ayuba Usman, Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), made the announcement from the commission’s headquarters in Lafia.
In the elections, held on November 2, APC candidates dominated the council areas, with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) winning five wards and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) capturing two. Usman praised the peaceful conduct of the election, noting the significant turnout and highlighting the use of technology to improve efficiency and transparency.
The Nasarawa State local government elections saw participation from 14 political parties, indicating robust trust in the electoral process. NASIEC’s awareness campaign, coupled with the cooperation of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and security agencies, contributed to the election’s success, reinforcing democracy at the grassroots level in Nasarawa State.
