The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) has officially declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of all local government chairmanship and councilorship seats in the elections held across the 34 local government areas of the state on Saturday, February 17, 2025.
Chairman of KTSIEC, Lawal Faskari, announced the final results on Sunday, explaining that collation was delayed due to late submissions from some local government areas. The election was contested by five political parties, including Accord (A), African Action Congress (AAC), African Development Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Booth Party (BP). However, the APC secured a landslide victory, winning all chairmanship and councilorship positions across the state.
Faskari praised the ad-hoc electoral staff, stating that they conducted the election efficiently and within the stipulated time frame. He also commended election observers for their support, political party leaders for their cooperation, and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
With the APC dominating the Katsina local government elections, attention now shifts to the swearing-in of newly elected officials and how they will address local governance challenges in the state.
