As the low travel season kicks in spanning February to May airlines flying from Nigeria to Europe have significantly reduced fares, offering promotional ticket prices and incentives to attract passengers during a time when travel demand traditionally dips, 9am news report.
One of the most notable fare cuts came from British Airways, which recently offered its premium economy class ticket from Lagos to London for as low as $300, a dramatic drop from the usual $1,000+ charged during peak travel periods.
This seasonal shift is having a ripple effect across the aviation market, especially for travelers departing Lagos to key European cities such as London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Brussels. Fares for both economy and business class tickets have dropped by as much as 15% to 25% compared to the summer travel season of 2024.
Current Economy Class Airfare Trends

Business Class Fare Cuts
Business travelers are also enjoying significant reductions:

Previously: ₦5 million – ₦9 million - Lagos to France:
Now: ₦3.2 million – ₦8 million - Lagos to Berlin:

Why the Prices Are Falling
According to Susan Akporaiye, former president of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), the fare reductions are largely driven by low demand, airline promotions, and exchange rate stabilization.
“Whatever ticket price you are seeing that looks cheap must either be a promo fare or because the rate of airlines’ exchange has stabilised. These have kept the fares a bit stable,” she said.
Alex Nwuba, president of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association of Nigeria, attributes the price cuts to the operating environment in Europe which allows airlines to run at lower costs and pass savings onto travelers.
“The reverse is clearly the case in Nigeria where airlines are held hostage by the system itself,” he noted.
Internationally, airlines are also grappling with weakening travel demand due to economic uncertainty, tariff impacts, and consumer pullbacks. For instance:
- Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and Southwest Airlines have all revised their revenue outlooks.
- Airline stocks have taken a hit in 2025, with Delta down 38%, American Airlines by 45%, and United Airlines by 40%.
Air France, in particular, slashed fares to fill empty seats on transatlantic routes, citing lower-than-expected international demand.
The current dip in flight prices from Nigeria to Europe offers a golden opportunity for travelers to explore international destinations at a discount. However, these price cuts are temporary, and fares are expected to spike again as the summer high season approaches. Travelers looking to make the most of these deals are advised to book early while promotions last.
