The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has officially affirmed Governor Biodun Oyebanji as its consensus candidate for the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial election.

The endorsement took place on Monday in Ado-Ekiti during a party congress attended by top APC leaders and members across the state. The motion to adopt Oyebanji as the consensus candidate was moved by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and seconded by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Stephen Aribasoye.

Chairman of the Affirmation Congress Committee, Ahmed Ododo, described the event as a clear demonstration of unity within the party, emphasizing that the decision reflected the governor’s remarkable performance and development strides across critical sectors.

Ododo noted that Governor Oyebanji’s leadership has significantly improved governance and the welfare of the people, stressing that the overwhelming support for his re-election bid was an acknowledgment of his achievements.

He added, “The All Progressives Congress remains a party of discipline and good governance, and this affirmation shows the trust and confidence the people of Ekiti have in the leadership style of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.”

Governor Oyebanji, who assumed office in 2022, has been widely praised for his focus on infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance. His consensus endorsement by the APC sets the stage for what is expected to be a largely unified re-election campaign.

The 2026 Ekiti governorship election is scheduled to hold in mid-2026, with Oyebanji now positioned as the flagbearer to defend the APC’s hold on the state.
