The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has declared its intention to deliver at least one million votes for its candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr. Ejimofor Opara, made this known in a statement issued in Anambra on Sunday, debunking allegations that the party and its candidate plan to engage in vote buying during the polls.

Opara said APGA remains the dominant political force in Anambra and does not need inducements to win elections, noting that the party is instead focusing on boosting voter participation across the state.

He explained that APGA is introducing a reward system for wards and local government areas that successfully mobilize the highest number of voters, describing the move as a “healthy competition” rather than inducement.

“In this election, we don’t want to just win; we want to mobilize and fully exploit the electoral strength of our party to hit the one million vote mark,” Opara said. “To achieve this, appropriate incentives have been introduced to encourage voter turnout. This is not vote buying by any stretch of the imagination.”

He added that the decision was prompted by the trend of voter apathy in past elections, noting that in the last governorship election, only about 200,000 out of 2.7 million registered voters participated.

Opara also cited instances demonstrating APGA’s popularity, including a case where a woman in Ukwulu community reportedly rejected money from opposition parties to vote for APGA in 2021.

He emphasized that the incentives are designed solely to boost participation and ensure that Anambra’s electorate takes full ownership of the democratic process.
