In what has sparked nationwide attention, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Lagos socialite and nightclub owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, following a midnight raid on his Proxy Nightclub in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, reportedly targeted a drug-themed party that had been flagged by intelligence sources. According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, officers had been monitoring the event since 11 p.m. on Saturday, embedding undercover agents at the venue before storming it around 3 a.m.

Over 100 individuals were detained for screening, including Pretty Mike himself, who was identified as the club owner. NDLEA operatives disclosed that cartons of illicit substances were seized from the club’s storage area and from partygoers. Items recovered include “Loud” (a strong variant of cannabis) and canisters of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas.

“The raid followed actionable intelligence about the event. NDLEA operatives who were embedded in the party between 11 p.m. on Saturday disrupted the gathering at about 3 a.m. on Sunday in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures,” Babafemi said in the official statement.

While Pretty Mike remains in custody, the NDLEA stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of his involvement and possible charges. The raid forms part of a nationwide crackdown on drug-related events and trafficking networks, which the agency has intensified in recent weeks.

A 9am News report gathered that this latest operation underscores NDLEA’s renewed determination under Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.) to combat substance abuse and illicit drug distribution in nightlife and entertainment circles across Nigeria.
