A three-storey building under construction collapsed on Friday night, September 12, at 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State, leaving several persons trapped under the rubble.
The incident occurred around 8:30 pm. Eyewitnesses gave conflicting reports, with some saying six people were trapped while others said five. So far, emergency responders have rescued four adult males alive, who were immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
Teams from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other first responders quickly arrived at the scene to commence search and rescue operations.
As of press time, the exact number of people still trapped under the collapsed structure remains unclear. Officials have cordoned off the site to secure the area and allow unhindered operations.
According to a 9am News report, the rescue mission is continuing into the night, with emergency authorities assuring residents that no effort will be spared to save lives.
