His resignation comes just weeks after he survived an impeachment attempt and suspended three lawmakers in a controversial move that deepened divisions within the Assembly.
According to 9am News report, Governor Hyacinth Alia and his loyalists were in a closed-door meeting to decide on Dajoh’s replacement.
Meanwhile, security was tightened across Makurdi as heavily armed soldiers from the 72 Special Battalion were deployed to strategic points, including the Tito railway bypass, Wurukum roundabout, and the commissioner’s quarters, to prevent any possible unrest.
The Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Terver Zamber, said he was still confirming details with Dajoh at the time of filing this report.
The sudden resignation has heightened political uncertainty in Benue State, with analysts suggesting that the choice of the next Speaker could shape the balance of power between Governor Alia’s loyalists and opposing lawmakers in the Assembly.
