The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has announced the commencement of submissions for Nigeria’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film (IFF) category ahead of the 98th Oscars Awards.

In a statement released by the committee, Nigerian filmmakers can submit their qualifying works between August 13, 2025, and September 12, 2025, through the official NOSC submission portal. The NOSC, the sole body recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to select Nigeria’s entry, outlined strict eligibility guidelines to ensure filmmakers meet the global standard.

According to the statement, submissions must:

  • Be feature-length films produced outside the United States.
  • Contain at least 50% of dialogue in a language other than English (Nigerian Pidgin is acceptable).
  • Include accurate, legible English subtitles.
  • Meet AMPAS-approved technical specifications (35mm, 70mm, or Digital Cinema formats).
  • Have a theatrical release for at least seven consecutive days between December 1, 2024, and October 31, 2025.

The winning selection will represent Nigeria at the Oscars in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15, 2026, competing against entries from across the globe for cinema’s most prestigious award. The ceremony will be broadcast live to over 200 territories worldwide.

A 9am News report notes that Nigeria has been working to secure consistent representation at the Oscars in recent years, following global attention on Nollywood productions and the success of films such as The Milkmaid. The NOSC emphasized that adherence to the submission rules is crucial to avoid disqualification.

The Oscars Best International Feature Film category, formerly known as Best Foreign Language Film, celebrates outstanding cinematic achievements from outside the United States and remains a highly competitive global contest.
