The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the South-West region has dissociated itself from the recently announced coalition of opposition political parties ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

At a stakeholders’ meeting held in Ibadan, Hon. Femi Olaniyi, popularly known as Ferrari and the Chairman of SDP chairmen in the 36 states and FCT, stated that no decision has been taken by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to join any coalition.

Olaniyi clarified that SDP in the region covering Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, and Oyo States has no alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which was reportedly adopted as the coalition’s platform by opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, ex-Senate President David Mark, and others.

“As it stands now, there is nothing like coalition in SDP,” Olaniyi told members at the meeting.

He assured stakeholders that the National Working Committee remains in charge of any major party decision and has promised to provide support materials, including membership cards and registers, to strengthen the party’s structures at state levels.

“In 2027, we will rescue Nigeria from the current administration, bring a formidable government and show all Nigerians a true and real democracy,” he added.

Hon. Babatunde Omotayo, an SDP lawmaker in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, stressed that the meeting focused on resolving internal issues and reaffirming unity across the South-West.

“SDP as a political party doesn’t have plans to join the so-called coalition,” Omotayo reiterated.

The meeting was attended by key party leaders including the host Chairman for Oyo, Hon Okunlade Michael; Barrister Gbenga Akinbuli (Ondo); Otunba Yinka Ola-Williams (Ogun); Alhaji Yinus Gbadamosi (Osun); Hon Ayodele Bamikole (Ekiti); and Deputy National Woman Leader, Hon. Bosede Ilesanmi.

The SDP’s clear position comes amid growing speculations over opposition alignments ahead of 2027.
