Victor Osimhen’s highly anticipated transfer away from Napoli is still hanging in the balance after the Serie A club reportedly made fresh demands on Turkish champions Galatasaray before they would sanction the deal.
According to 9am News report, besides Galatasaray paying the remaining €35 million next year, Napoli have also insisted they get 20% of any future transfer fee if Osimhen is sold to another club.
Football Italia reports that this prolonged saga mirrors last summer’s drama when the Nigeria international’s future dominated headlines with little real progress. The situation became so tense that Osimhen handed in a medical note to excuse himself from Napoli’s pre-season duties then a move he has repeated this year.
Despite Galatasaray agreeing to Napoli’s full €75 million asking price, the clubs are yet to settle on the payment structure. Recent reports indicate that Galatasaray offered €40 million upfront with the balance of €35 million to be paid in instalments. Napoli, however, rejected this proposal, demanding the full balance by the end of 2026 along with the significant 20% sell-on clause.
Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu described the requested percentage as unusually high for a player of Osimhen’s profile, especially considering his transfer history and market value.
In a related twist, Osimhen missed Napoli’s first pre-season training session yesterday under new manager Antonio Conte. The 26-year-old striker reportedly submitted another sick note while waiting for the final paperwork to seal his permanent move to Galatasaray.
The prolific forward had spent last season on loan at the Turkish side, where he impressed with 37 goals and eight assists in 41 appearances. Despite attempts by Napoli to steer him towards a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, Osimhen is said to have no interest in a switch to the Saudi Pro League at this stage of his career.
As things stand, Victor Osimhen remains a Napoli player, with negotiations still dragging on as fans wait to see whether the Super Eagles star will finally secure his move away from Italy.
