The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country from today through Wednesday, warning residents to prepare for wet conditions.
In its latest weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet said that parts of Taraba and Adamawa States will experience morning thunderstorms today, while areas including Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, and more parts of Adamawa and Taraba will likely see thunderstorms later in the day.
For the Northcentral region, NiMet expects sunny skies mixed with patches of cloud in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and rain showers over states such as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Niger, Benue, Plateau, and Nasarawa later in the afternoon or evening.
In the southern region, cloudy weather is anticipated with chances of morning rains across coastal states including Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa. By afternoon and evening, rain showers are expected to spread further to Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Imo, Abia, Edo, Ebonyi, Enugu, and other parts of Lagos and the South-South.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, the agency forecasts sunny skies with light clouds in northern Nigeria during the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rain in parts of Bauchi, Taraba, Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, and Adamawa later in the day.
For the Northcentral, partly cloudy skies are predicted in the morning with possible isolated thunderstorms and rain later over the FCT, Kwara, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Niger.
The southern region is set to remain wet, with morning showers in Cross River, Bayelsa, Delta, and Akwa Ibom. By afternoon and evening, isolated rains are expected over Ekiti, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Oyo, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Lagos States.
According to NiMet’s forecast, by Wednesday, thunderstorms with rain are expected across parts of Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, and Gombe in the morning hours.
The 9am News report advises residents, farmers, and road users in the affected regions to stay informed and take necessary precautions as wet conditions may disrupt transportation and daily activities.
