Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested thirty-four suspected internet fraudsters in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to a statement by the EFCC on Monday, June 23, 2025, the suspects were apprehended in the early hours at Iworoko and Ijado areas of Ado-Ekiti after credible intelligence exposed their alleged involvement in cybercrime activities.
A spokesperson for the Commission said, “The operatives acted on actionable intelligence about the activities of a syndicate of internet fraudsters operating within these communities. Their arrest is part of the EFCC’s sustained efforts to rid the nation of economic and cyber-related crimes.”
Items recovered during the sting operation include eleven exotic cars, multiple laptops, several mobile phones, and various incriminating documents.
“We recovered items believed to be proceeds of fraud, which will form key evidence when the suspects are arraigned,” the statement added.
The EFCC confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court once ongoing investigations are concluded.
The 9am News report notes that the latest arrests add to the growing number of internet fraud crackdowns by the EFCC in Nigeria’s southwest, especially in student-dominated communities notorious for cybercrime.
The Commission urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that will help authorities tackle the menace of financial and internet-related fraud in the country.
