Remo Stars Football Club were officially crowned champions of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday, following an emphatic 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The title presentation was conducted by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who handed the prestigious NPFL trophy to the jubilant players in front of their ecstatic home fans. The win not only secured Remo Stars’ first-ever top-flight title but also marked a historic moment for the Southwest, being the first club from the region to win the NPFL since Julius Berger in 1991.
According to the 9am News report, Remo Stars showed resilience after going behind in the 15th minute. They rallied back with goals from Sikiru Alimi (37’), Ibrahim Shuaib (41’), Babatunde Bello (48’), who celebrated his birthday with a goal, and Olamilekan Adedayo (67’) to complete a remarkable comeback.
The win took Remo Stars to 71 points, confirming their place at the top of the NPFL standings with one game to spare. Founded in 2004 by Kunle Soname, the club’s meteoric rise from the lower leagues to national champions underscores a model of consistency, vision, and strong grassroots development.
With the NPFL crown secured, Remo Stars will now turn their attention to continental football as they prepare to represent Nigeria in the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. This development promises not only increased exposure for the club but also a boost for Nigerian football on the African stage.
As the club continues to bask in glory, the Ogun State government and fans across Nigeria have hailed the victory as a new dawn for professional football in the region.
