The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) was a dazzling celebration of Nollywood’s growth, creativity, and cultural impact. Held in Lagos, the 2025 event honoured both emerging talents and industry veterans, with notable wins for Femi Adebayo, Chioma Chukwuka, Kayode Kasum, and the team behind Lisabi: The Uprising.
According to a 9am News report, Seven Doors emerged as one of the top winners of the night. Femi Adebayo clinched Best Lead Actor, while Chioma Chukwuka won Best Lead Actress. Although Chioma was absent at the event, her heartfelt reaction in a viral Instagram video captured her shock and gratitude.
In a moment that highlighted the night’s respect for cinematic icons, Sani Mu’azu and Nkem Owoh received Lifetime Achievement Awards for their longstanding contributions to the Nigerian film industry. The Trailblazer Award went to director Kayode Kasum, recognised for his bold, genre-defying storytelling approach.
Lisabi: The Uprising Sweeps Multiple Awards
One of the most celebrated projects of the night was Lisabi: The Uprising, which won Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa). Its stars, Abdullateef Adedimeji and Mo’ Bimpe Adedimeji, accepted the award with heartfelt gratitude to God and their hardworking team.
The film also secured victories in Make-Up, Art Direction, and was nominated in several other major categories including Best Movie and Best Sound Design.
Freedom Way and Inkabi Stand Out
Blessing Uzzi’s Freedom Way won Best Movie and Best Writer, showcasing Nollywood’s growing strength in screenwriting and narrative quality. Meanwhile, Inkabi was a dominant force in technical categories, winning Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and earning multiple other nominations.
