The leaders of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) have declared their unwavering loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, firmly distancing themselves from the faction led by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN), who are reportedly in coalition talks with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Led by former Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, the CPC bloc reaffirmed its commitment to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. Other notable figures in the group include Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, former Katsina Governor Bello Masari, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maitama Tuga Yusuf, and NDLEA Chairman Gen. Buba Marwa. Also present were former APC National Secretary Waziri Bulama and APC National Vice Chairman (North West) Mohammed Datti Garba.
Speaking in Abuja, Al-Makura said:
“We have come together with clarity, unity, and purpose. We are here to reaffirm our commitment to the ideals that brought us together in 2013, to set the records straight, and to send a clear message to all Nigerians that the former CPC majority stakeholders remain strong, united, and deeply loyal to the APC and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
He dismissed speculation suggesting the CPC bloc had abandoned the APC, stating:
“Let it be known clearly that we have not left the APC. We are very much here, standing tall, standing proud, and standing firm within the party that we helped to found through sweat, sacrifice, and patriotic commitment.”
Al-Makura reflected on the CPC’s role in the historic 2015 coalition, saying:
“We recall with pride how we in the CPC, in collaboration with other patriots in ACN, ANPP, APGA, DPP, and nPDP, contributed enormously to the spirit of unity and national cohesion that led to the defeat of an incumbent government in 2015, and ushered in a new era under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
On current national challenges, Al-Makura acknowledged the economic difficulties facing Nigerians but called for patience and support:
“We commend the bold steps taken by President Tinubu and urge Nigerians to trust the process, knowing that the foundation being laid today will lead to a more prosperous and secure future.”
The statement marks a clear separation between the CPC bloc’s leadership and the El-Rufai-Malami faction, signaling unity within the party’s mainstream ahead of the next electoral cycle.
According to the 9am News report, the CPC bloc’s public declaration reinforces Tinubu’s political base as the administration works to navigate economic reforms and consolidate party support nationwide.
