Former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili has strongly denied allegations that she received payment to support Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in her sexual harassment case against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, according to a 9am News report.
The denial follows accusations made by UK-based activist Sandra Duru, also known as Professor Mgbeke, who claimed last Thursday that Akpoti-Uduaghan fabricated her sexual harassment claims and told her Ezekwesili was paid to back the story.
In a post on the social media platform X on Saturday, Ezekwesili dismissed the claims as baseless:
“No sensible and decent person who knows my incorruptible track record is deceived by the ridiculous fabrications being peddled by your traducers. They know—without a doubt—that no amount of money, not even all the wealth in every Central Bank in the world, can buy my convictions, voice, and stance on any matter I choose to support.”
Ezekwesili has been a vocal advocate for an independent investigation into the allegations made by Akpoti-Uduaghan, calling for Akpabio to step aside to ensure an impartial probe.
“Our commitment to justice is unshaken, and we will not relent until justice is served,” Ezekwesili added, reaffirming her full support for Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The controversy dates back to February when Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of making unwanted sexual advances, alleging incidents both in his office and at his residence in Akwa Ibom State. The accusations surfaced after a disagreement over seating arrangements in the Senate chamber.
On March 6, the Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months, citing “gross misconduct” related to her altercation with the presiding officer.
Speaking further on the allegations, Ezekwesili emphasized her unwavering commitment to justice:
“I will always stand by the truth and continue to advocate for accountability and fairness, no matter the opposition.”
As the controversy continues to unfold, many Nigerians are closely watching how the government and Senate leadership will respond to mounting calls for an independent inquiry.
