Lagos, the dynamic cultural and commercial capital of Nigeria, is once again strongly positioned to host Africa’s most prestigious music celebration, the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), in 2025.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed the state’s readiness to welcome the event during a meeting with a delegation from the African Union (AU) and the AFRIMA International Committee at his office. He highlighted Lagos’ qualification for the hosting rights, citing the city’s renowned status as Africa’s creative and cultural epicenter.

According to the 9am News report, Sanwo-Olu expressed that hosting AFRIMA 2025 perfectly aligns with his administration’s vision of strengthening the creative industry and tourism as vital pillars for economic development.
“I am impressed by the diversity and calibre of the AFRIMA International Committee. Seeing representatives from Cote d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Morocco, and South Africa is a strong affirmation that AFRIMA is a truly pan-African initiative,” the governor said.
“We are fully prepared to provide the necessary support to make AFRIMA 2025 a resounding success.”
The All Africa Music Awards, widely regarded as the continent’s top music event, showcases and celebrates African musical talent, drawing global attention and fostering unity through the arts.
Ms. Angela Martins, Head of Culture and Acting Director for Social Development, Culture, and Sport at the African Union Commission, commended the Lagos State Government for its unwavering support of the arts. She reaffirmed the AU’s strong partnership with AFRIMA, praising Lagos as a beacon of creative excellence in Africa.
AFRIMA 2025 is expected to attract music stars, industry stakeholders, and fans from across Africa and beyond, boosting tourism and affirming Lagos’ place as a global hub for entertainment and culture.
