President Tinubu Fully Engaged Despite Trip Abroad – Presidency

Amid growing concerns about President Bola Tinubu's absence, the Presidency reassures Nigerians that he remains fully engaged in governance from Europe and will return after the Easter holiday.

Amid rising questions about the whereabouts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidency has reassured Nigerians that the president remains fully engaged in the affairs of the nation, even as he continues his stay in Europe.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, issued a statement on Thursday affirming that the president’s absence is temporary and falls within the previously communicated two-week timeframe.

“The President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership,” Onanuga said.

Tinubu, who departed Abuja for France on April 2, was initially expected to return after two weeks. Onanuga reiterated that his return to Aso Villa will come after the conclusion of the Easter holiday.

The President’s continued absence has sparked criticism from opposition figures and concerned citizens, particularly in the wake of a spate of terrorist attacks in North East and North Central Nigeria.

In the past two weeks alone, over 100 lives have reportedly been lost to various attacks in affected regions. Critics argue that the President’s absence during such a volatile period reflects poorly on his administration’s sensitivity to national security concerns.

Despite this, Onanuga maintained that governance remains uninterrupted, emphasizing the ability of the government to function regardless of the President’s physical location.

“We appreciate the public’s concern and assure all Nigerians that governance proceeds without interruption,” the statement read.

Tinubu’s Remote Leadership

While the statement did not detail the specific activities Tinubu has been engaged in while abroad, it stressed that he has maintained active oversight and strategic direction over national affairs.

The presidency’s message appears aimed at quelling speculation about any health concerns or governance vacuum.

However, pressure continues to mount as security deteriorates in some parts of the country. The deaths of civilians in areas plagued by insurgency have led to fresh calls for decisive action and a more visible leadership presence.

As Nigerians await the President’s return, expected after Easter, the government’s messaging is clear: Tinubu is still in charge and the administration is functioning. Yet, how the presidency responds to the escalating security crisis, especially in the north, could significantly shape public confidence in the coming weeks.
