The Federal Government has officially unveiled the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) certificate licensing programme to equip Nigerians with globally recognised digital skills certifications. The programme is designed to address the country’s widening digital skills gap and boost workforce capacity in the fast-growing digital economy, 9am news reports

The initiative was launched at the Lagos campus of DBI by the institute’s President and CEO, David Daser, who described it as a significant step in Nigeria’s quest to lead the African digital transformation space. He noted that the programme would enhance the nation’s economic competitiveness by providing individuals and organisations with globally accredited ICT certifications that would improve employability and drive economic growth.

David Daser emphasised that the DBI, a subsidiary of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has been a pioneer in ICT education in Nigeria. The institute is licensed by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and collaborates with global tech giants such as Cisco, Microsoft, and Huawei to ensure that its training programmes meet international industry standards.

The newly launched Global Certification and Training Partnership Programme (GTP/GCP) will enable DBI to license its training modules to qualified institutions and trainers across the country. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic growth, youth empowerment, and job creation.

Empowering Nigeria’s Digital Workforce

David Daser urged stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to support the programme by collaborating with DBI to create a robust digital workforce capable of driving Nigeria’s digital economy. He highlighted the importance of equipping Nigerian youths with high-demand tech skills to increase their employability and contribute to the nation’s technological advancement.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Commit Technology and Consult Limited, Dr. Niran Oyekale, stressed the urgency of addressing the country’s digital skills gap. He warned that Nigeria could fall behind in the global knowledge economy if adequate measures are not taken to prioritise digital skills development.

Furthermore, the DBI certificate licensing programme is expected to play a vital role in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey by producing a skilled workforce that will power the country’s digital economy. The initiative reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to creating an inclusive digital environment and positioning Nigeria as a leader in digital skills training across Africa.

Also, with the programme now in motion, Nigeria is set to make significant strides in ICT education, job creation, and economic growth. The DBI initiative serves as a blueprint for unlocking the full potential of the nation’s digital economy.
