FirstBank, the oldest and one of the leading financial institutions in West Africa, has officially broken ground for its new 40-story Iconic Head Office Building at Eko Atlantic City in Lagos, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s financial sector.

The ambitious project, which will become Nigeria’s tallest skyscraper, highlights FirstBank’s commitment to sustainable banking, technological innovation, and customer-centric services.

The groundbreaking ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, marks the beginning of a transformative journey for the bank. The new green-certified head office building will redefine Lagos’ skyline and set a benchmark for eco-friendly and intelligent construction in the Nigerian financial services industry.

Speaking at the ceremony, the CEO of FirstBank Group, Olusegun Alebiosu, described the project as a symbol of FirstBank’s unwavering dedication to excellence and innovation.

“We are proud to mark this significant milestone in our journey towards excellence. Our new Head Office is envisioned as a world-class structure that represents our dedication to innovation, customer satisfaction, and sustainability. This development will foster economic growth and create long-term value for all our stakeholders,” Alebiosu said in a statement made available to 9am News Nigeria.

FirstBank’s new headquarters will be environmentally friendly and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The building’s design incorporates, energy-efficient systems, advanced waste management solutions, smart building technologies, and low operating and maintenance costs

According to Femi Otedola, Chairman of FirstHoldCo Plc, the project is a testament to FirstBank’s unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries and driving innovation.

“Today’s gathering highlights the importance of collaboration and support from various sectors in bringing our ambitious plans for the new headquarters to life. We appreciate the unrelenting support from our customers and stakeholders as we work together to turn this vision into reality,” Otedola stated.
