Manchester United are reportedly planning a sensational swap deal to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli, offering €40 million plus Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund in the summer transfer window.
According to reports from Calciomercato.com (via Football Italia), United are among the top European clubs interested in signing the former African Player of the Year but are reluctant to meet his €75 million release clause. Instead, the Red Devils are exploring a player-plus-cash deal to secure Osimhen’s signature.
Osimhen’s Scoring Form
The Super Eagles striker is currently on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray, where he has been in sensational form. Osimhen has scored 14 goals and provided four assists in 19 Turkish Super Lig appearances this season.
He has also made seven appearances in the UEFA Europa League, netting six goals and registering one assist, taking his overall tally to 20 goals and five assists in 26 matches across all competitions this season.
Osimhen’s consistent performances have made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, with several top clubs monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund, who joined United from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, has endured a difficult 2024-25 campaign. The 21-year-old Danish forward has managed just seven goals and one assist in 32 appearances across all competitions this season, struggling to live up to expectations at Old Trafford.
Despite showing flashes of his potential, Hojlund’s underwhelming form has fueled speculation that United could offload him as part of a swap deal to bring Osimhen to the Premier League.
According to Repubblica, Manchester United were interested in signing Osimhen during the January transfer window, but the striker opted to remain at Galatasaray until the end of the season.
With Napoli set to recall Osimhen at the end of his loan spell, the Italian club will demand a fee close to his €75 million release clause before considering any offers.
However, United’s proposed package of €40 million plus Hojlund could tempt Napoli into a deal, especially as the Italian giants seek to rebuild their squad for next season.
