MohBad's death

Nigerian singer and record label executive, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has spoken out following reports that cleared his name from any involvement in the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as MohBad.

The 33-year-old Marlian Music boss took to his X page on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, to express his emotions in a lengthy post.

Naira Marley revealed that he has been carrying pain and shame over allegations surrounding MohBad’s death, despite being innocent.

“I never thought silence could be so loud. I never thought someone I called my brother, someone I protected, would leave this world with my name in his shadow. I have carried this weight, this pain, this shame that was never mine to bear,” he wrote.

The singer added that he had made peace with MohBad before the late artist’s sudden passing in September 2023.

“We, as Marlians, were not perfect. We had to grow, we had to adapt. Mistakes were made, but they were business — never war. I made peace with Mohbad. We understood each other beyond the noise, beyond the misunderstandings. And you know this.”

Naira Marley also accused those close to MohBad of turning the public against him while knowing the truth.

He lamented,
“Yet when he took his last breath in you all’s arms, you looked at the world and pointed at me. You let them tear me apart. You let them call me a killer while you sat there, knowing the truth.”

The singer expressed disappointment that the truth was not revealed earlier, adding that MohBad’s body is still not buried due to the controversy.

“I welcomed you all into my home. I gave you my trust. And yet, my brother is gone, still not buried, and that is your fault. Telling the truth from the beginning would have given him the rest he deserves.”

MohBad’s death sparked widespread speculation and protests across Nigeria, with many pointing fingers at Naira Marley due to their public fallout before the singer’s death. However, investigations by the Nigerian Police Force cleared Naira Marley and others of any direct involvement.

The emotional statement by Naira Marley has triggered mixed reactions on social media, with fans calling for justice and closure for the late singer.
