Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned at the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, a day after turning himself in to the police.

Portable was declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command on February 18, 2025, for allegedly assaulting officials of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. He had reportedly been in hiding for a week, while nine of his associates were arraigned and fined ₦5 million each.

The police released a wanted notice on social media, stating that a magistrate’s court had issued an arrest warrant against the singer. He was accused of conspiracy, serious assault, going armed, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and attempted murder. Authorities alleged that Portable and his armed associates attacked government officials at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu, Ota, Ogun State, on February 5, 2025.

Following the police declaration, Portable’s fans urged him to surrender, but he initially pleaded with the government, claiming that he was mentally unstable.

“I fear government. I am a federal government liability. I am a madman; I have medications that I take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as a patient. I am from Abeokuta, and they are taking care of me there. I am not a thief, I help people,” he stated.

However, law enforcement dismissed his insanity plea and urged him to turn himself in.

After days in hiding, Portable surrendered himself to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba, Lagos. The development was confirmed by Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

“Portable just turned himself in at the SCID Yaba. We have contacted the Ogun State Police Command to come pick him up,” Hundeyin stated.

Following his transfer to Ogun State, the singer has now been arraigned in court, where he will face legal proceedings for the charges brought against him.
