Dr. George Moghalu, the former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has officially entered the race for the Anambra State governorship election. On Tuesday, Moghalu purchased the Labour Party’s ₦30 million nomination and expression of interest forms at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, 9am news nigeria.

Addressing journalists after receiving the forms, Moghalu expressed his confidence in winning both the party’s primary and the main election, where he would challenge the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo.

“For me, it is a privilege to run on the platform of LP because one may decide to run, but the party may refuse to accept you. It is not just about paying for the forms but also about being accepted by the people you want to represent,” he said.

Moghalu assured party members of his unwavering loyalty, emphasizing his commitment to the LP’s principles. He highlighted his experience within party structures and his belief in the strength of the Labour Party as a vehicle for positive change in Anambra State.

“My loyalty to wherever I belong cannot be questioned. I have always remained in one party since the inception of this democratic dispensation. But I had to leave for LP because, in every political consideration, two factors are critical: the party and the person,” he explained.

The LP’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, who handed over the forms, assured that the party’s primary would be transparent and fair. Abure stressed that the selection process would be determined by LP members in Anambra State, not by external influence.

“Our party members in Anambra will determine who becomes the governorship candidate. Abuja will not dictate who becomes the candidate. I urge you to engage with party members because they ultimately hold the power to decide who flies our flag in the election,” Abure said.

Moghalu’s entry into the race adds fresh momentum to the Labour Party’s preparations for the upcoming off-cycle election in Anambra State. His experience in public service and his promise of grassroots engagement signal a competitive contest ahead.
