9am News Nigeria reports that Nigeria has officially secured the hosting rights for the 2025 Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM2025), a major financial and trade summit scheduled to take place in Abuja from June 23 to June 27, 2025. This move further cements Nigeria’s role as Africa’s commercial hub and showcases Afreximbank’s confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The hosting agreement was formally signed on Tuesday, February 12, at the Ministry of Finance Headquarters in Abuja. Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, signed on behalf of the Federal Government, while Afreximbank President Benedict Oramah represented the bank.
Strategic Importance of AAM2025
Minister Wale Edun highlighted that AAM2025 will be a crucial platform for shaping discussions on trade finance, economic expansion, and investment opportunities across Africa.
“Nigeria is honored to host the 2025 Afreximbank Annual Meetings, which will serve as a critical platform to drive discussions on trade financing, economic growth, and investment opportunities across Africa. We have been chosen because we are qualified and ready,” Edun emphasized.
The five-day event is expected to attract over 5,000 participants, including African leaders, policymakers, financial experts, and global investors, either physically or virtually. The forum aims to enhance trade financing for African businesses and create new opportunities for SMEs.
A Farewell to Afreximbank President Benedict Oramah
The 2025 edition of AAM will also mark a significant moment in Afreximbank’s history as it serves as a farewell event for President Benedict Oramah, who is set to retire after a decade of remarkable leadership.
Also, Oramah’s tenure has been pivotal in strengthening intra-African trade and industrialization, positioning Afreximbank as a leading force in Africa’s financial landscape. He emphasized that the decision to host the meeting in Nigeria reflects the bank’s faith in the country’s leadership and financial system.
“This event will further solidify Afreximbank’s impact on Africa’s financial scene while advancing Nigerian-led initiatives for trade and economic development across the continent,” Oramah stated.
As Nigeria prepares for AAM2025, the event is set to be a landmark moment, reinforcing its status as a key driver of African economic transformation.
