Asake has officially parted ways with YBNL, the record label that played a pivotal role in his rise to fame. Reports indicate that YBNL boss Olamide allowed the “Sungba” hitmaker to terminate his contract, enabling him to leave with the masters to all songs recorded under the label.

According to videowheelztv, the separation comes with an agreement for a royalty split on the songs, which will last for the remaining duration of the initial contract, a minimum of 10 years. This amicable split reportedly occurred a few months ago, shortly after the release of Asake’s album Lungu Boy.

Olamide, reflecting on the decision, stated:

“I didn’t create YBNL because I wanted to make money. I created it because I wanted to see other young people grow. If any artist under me wants to leave, they are free. Asake has done his part, and I’m proud of him.”

The split has garnered significant attention, especially after Asake removed all references to YBNL from his social media and unfollowed Olamide and others earlier this week. Sources also revealed that prior to the separation, Olamide offered Asake a new contract after the expiration of his initial agreement. However, Asake reportedly declined, opting instead to forge his own path.

Asake, who joined YBNL in 2022, enjoyed a meteoric rise under the label, achieving remarkable feats, including selling out the O2 Arena twice and releasing several chart-topping hits. Despite this departure, both parties maintain mutual respect, signaling a positive end to their professional relationship.
