In a groundbreaking achievement, Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest crude oil refinery, has commenced exporting petroleum products, with Cameroon as its first destination. The refinery successfully completed its inaugural shipment to the West African nation on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
This milestone was made possible through a strategic partnership between Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil, a leading Cameroonian oil company.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of the Dangote Group, emphasized the broader implications of this development.
“This first export of PMS to Cameroon is a tangible demonstration of our vision for a united and energy-independent Africa. With this development, we are laying the foundation for a future where African resources are refined and exchanged within the continent for the benefit of our people,” Dangote stated.
Antoine Ndzengue, Director and Founder of Neptune Oil, described the partnership as transformative for Cameroon.
“This partnership with Dangote Refinery marks a turning point for Cameroon. By becoming the first importer of petroleum products from this world-class refinery, we are bolstering our country’s energy security and supporting local economic development. This initial supply, executed without international intermediaries, reflects our commitment to serving our markets independently and efficiently,” Ndzengue said.
The collaboration aims to establish a sustainable supply chain that not only stabilizes oil prices but also drives economic growth in the region. By sourcing petroleum products directly from Dangote Refinery, Cameroon reduces its reliance on international intermediaries, enhancing energy security and catalyzing local development.
Located in Lagos, Nigeria, the Dangote Refinery has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, making it the largest single-train refinery in the world. This flagship project of the Dangote Group highlights Africa’s capacity to refine and utilize its resources within the continent.
This export marks a significant step in Dangote Refinery’s mission to meet Nigeria’s domestic energy needs while expanding its influence across Africa. The partnership with Neptune Oil showcases the potential for future collaborations aimed at fostering economic stability and growth on the continent.
