Federal Government Releases Withheld Salaries for NASU, Pays Retiree Benefits

In a conciliatory move, the Federal Government has released withheld salaries for NASU members and allocated funds for retiree benefits
Federal Government NASU salaries

The Federal Government has released funds to pay the withheld salaries of Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) members in federal universities, marking a significant step toward addressing long-standing salary arrears. Announced by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) and confirmed by Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations, this move is intended to support university staff and improve stability in Nigeria’s public higher education sector.

In addition to these salaries, the government has also allocated funds for the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector (NUPCPS) to honor retiree benefits. Mokwa confirmed that payments have begun, with many NASU members already receiving their salaries—a welcome relief amid ongoing strikes and financial strain within the academic sector.

Also, “The Federal Government remains committed to efficiently catering to the welfare of Nigerian workers and retirees,” the OAGF’s statement read, reaffirming its dedication to timely financial support for public sector employees and pensioners alike.

This development reflects the government’s broader efforts to resolve financial grievances in Nigeria’s education sector, aiming to support both active staff and retirees through consistent and prompt financial aid.
