CAF Unveils Nominees for 2024 Awards Set for December in Morocco

CAF reveals nominees for the 2024 awards, set for December 16 in Marrakech. Nigerian stars Lookman and Troost Ekong make the list as Africa celebrates football excellence.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the list of nominees for its 2024 awards, with the highly anticipated ceremony scheduled for December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco. The awards will honor outstanding achievements between January and October 2024 across various categories, including Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Young Player of the Year.

Key Nominees for 2024 CAF Awards

Player of the Year (Men)

Nigerian stars Ademola Lookman (Atalanta) and William Troost Ekong (Al Kholood) have been nominated alongside Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain), Simon Adingra of Cote d’Ivoire (Brighton & Hove Albion), and Serhou Guirassy of Guinea (Borussia Dortmund), Soufiane Rahimi of Morocco (Al Ain) and Ronwen Williams of South Africa (Mamelodi Sundowns), who earned nominations in three categories.

Goalkeeper of the Year

Top goalkeepers in the running include Andre Onana of Cameroon (Manchester United) and Mostafa Shobeir of Egypt (Al Ahly), alongside nominees from across Africa’s leagues like Lionel Mpasi (DR Congo, Rodez AF) and Stanley Nwabali (Nigeria, Chippa United).

Young Player of the Year

The Young Player category highlights emerging talents such as Carlos Baleba (Cameroon, Brighton & Hove Albion) and El Hadji Malick Diouf (Senegal, Slavia Prague). Amanallah Memmiche and Abdul Aziz Issah are also strong contenders, representing Tunisia and Ghana, respectively.

Coach of the Year

Among the nominated coaches, Marcel Koller of Al Ahly, Sebastien Desabre (DR Congo), and Hugo Broos (South Africa) are noted for their tactical prowess and leadership, with hopes to clinch the Coach of the Year title.

Voting Process

CAF stated that the winners will be determined by votes from a diverse panel, which includes the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, as well as Head Coaches and Captains of Member Associations. Clubs participating in interclub competition group stages will also contribute to the voting.

As CAF’s most celebrated awards event, this year’s ceremony in Marrakech will be a significant occasion for African football, showcasing the continent’s best talent and honoring the achievements of players, coaches, and teams who have excelled throughout 2024.
