Controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, has been at the center of bribery allegations that led to the suspension of several top personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) by the Federal Government.
In widely circulated videos, blogger Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, accused Bobrisky of paying ₦15 million to some Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers to drop money laundering charges following his April naira-spraying incident. The crossdresser was later sentenced to six months in prison by a court. The blogger further alleged that Bobrisky paid several million naira to secure a preferred prison spot.
Both the EFCC and NCoS ordered investigations into these allegations, which Bobrisky has denied.
On Thursday, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board announced the suspension of officers involved in these infractions. The statement, signed by Ja’afaru Ahmed, indicated that the suspension would allow for an impartial investigation, with the findings to be made public.
Among the suspended officers are Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos; and Sikiru Adekunle, DCC at the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos. Additionally, ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna of the MSCC in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, was suspended for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the facility.
In another case, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, DCC at the MSCC in Kuje, Abuja, was also suspended for allegedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.
